The most sustainable designs work with (not against) nature...

At Sound Watershed, we use inter-disciplinary design teams for most of our design efforts.  Such teams typically include hydrologists, geomorphologists, engineers, ecologists and biologists - all working together to develop integrated design solutions that work with nature.

In our experience, the traditional engineer-focused solutions tend to suppress or divert natural processes, often leading to expensive fixes that create other unintended consequences.

By working with nature, we seek to develop designs that improve environmental qualities at reduced costs.  We encourage nature to do most of the work.  Our approach integrates both "Systems Thinking" and "Design Thinking" methods that delivers robust solutions more cost-effectively than traditional engineering approaches.
